In which me and Q attend a wedding on the island:

It was a seaside thing which meant lots of really succulent photos of water, rocks, sand, the tide, little crusty beach creatures, and seaweed things. Q despises the ocean but was a good sport about it, until the tide started coming in and the seaweed monsters came from the depths of the Pacific blue, with their slithery green-ness and gas pockets and other such attributes.

There were some fly fishermen out catching the salmon or trout. The fish would jump straight out of the water to eat insects.

The wedding was beautiful (that goes without saying, naturally.)

Walnut came along for the ride, marking his first trip to West Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay, and Nanaimo. After a horrific fall from the top of a bookcase, his shell got cracked and he missed out on a few trips until I took some glue-all to his epidermis and fixed him up, for better or worse. He makes a most excellent traveling companion.

I posted on my Jaiku the other day about re:vision, an Australian designer who makes bracelets (bangles?) out of discarded camera lenses. Unfortunately, art jewelry tends to be prohibitively expensive for people like me, but I really didn’t want to miss out on the awesomeness that combines personal decoration with my favourite activity outside of the bedroom. Who knew that the Australian dollar was so close to the American dollar? Drat.

But then I realized… Wait, I’m a freaking industrial designer. I’ve been taking apart objects and putting them back together with parts to spare for close to two decades now! I knew that there was a good reason why my dad would always drag me outside to help him <strike>take apart the engine</strike> change the oil in the ’89 VW Golf. I was born to do this. So I put up an ad on craigslist asking people if they’d be willing to sell me their old camera lenses for cheap, like five dollars cheap. I got a few responses, and was lucky enough to meet up with a really nice guy named Anthony who sold me a broken lens for $5bux. And man, this thing was toast- I think he mentioned that it had a nasty collision with the floor that would cost too much to fix. So I went home with a busted lens, and about 1/2 an hour later came up with this charmling little bangle:
